Mr. Paul Espenan has been actively changing lives for over 30 years. Paul currently serves as Vice President of Environmental, Health & Safety for Linn Energy.
Mr. Espenan graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Environmental Health, and the University of Texas at Dallas with a Master’s degree in Environmental Science. Paul began his professional career working as a legal assistant in Environmental and Occupational Law. Paul has worked in environmental consulting, engineering, construction, aerospace, and most recently oil and gas, including drilling, completion, and midstream processing. Paul’s main passion of getting people home safely has led him to focus on positive culture change and transformational leadership. Paul has multiple success stories in shaping culture for performance improvement. He has led investigations and corrective actions for numerous severe incidents including fatalities. Paul is highly experienced in the use of facilitated transformational leadership problem solving, and has facilitated breakthrough performance changes in reduction of spill frequencies and severity in multiple oil and gas operations. Paul has successfully addressed culture issues in a rapidly growing and contracting organization. In 2014, he led a two-year strategic Talent Management Initiative within Linn Energy. When oil prices collapsed in late 2014, Paul developed and began offering a Positive Leadership workshop to improve engagement and morale of his entire organization. Based on the popularity of the initial workshop, overwhelming support from senior leadership, and requests for more, a second workshop on Sustaining Positive Leadership was developed which also received extremely high feedback. His article, “Employee Happiness: An Alternative View” was recently published in Talent Quarterly magazine. In the last year, he has professionally presented on the topics of Positive Leadership, Wellness and the relationship to high performance.
